At "la cité" of Carcassonne, the dream comes true ! Visiting Carcassonne as a family is truly a magical moment.
Through the eyes of a child : an amazing historical journey
As you arrive, from Narbonnaise or Aude gate, children are always amazed by the size of the citadel and imagine that a knigt in armor will dash through at any minute (it can actually happen certain days) !
Walk peacefully along the paved streets surrounded by colorful boutiques : sweetshops or medieval costumes, wooden toys or perfumed soaps...
Stop for a pancake or an ice-cream.
The BIG adventure
To go up on the remparts, direction the château comtal (castle of counts) !
Go through the wooden (spooky) outside corridors, inside the towers, and right up to the top of the wall ... so many wonderful decors to contemplate...
The rempart is safe (but your kids must not lean on the crenel (but they are quite high))
Our advice : The château and remparts have a lot of stairs, and some windy ones. You will not be able to use a push chair. Best to use a carrier and take water when its hot !
Plenty of activities for little soldiers and fairies
Horse drawn carriage or little train , school museum...
For teenagers ; the haunted house or the torture museum ...loads to do (more +)
Depending on the season, many medieval events occure (St Nicolas, 1st week end of december, Cortesia on school holidays), chivalry tournaments during the summer, every day except saturday at 3 and 4.30 pm in summer...) and you often find street artists performing !
The "lices"is the space between both remparts, children can run freely, you can set a picnic or just relax ...
