PRIEURE SAINT-MICHEL-DE-NAHUZE

11220 VAL-DE-DAGNE

Regarding

This is an ancient priory of which only its remains are in evidence. The very pure Romanesque style dates the building to around the time of Charlemagne.
The people of Montlaur, Ribaute and Lagrasse would go in procession to Saint-Michel-de-Nahuze to ask for rain by singing litanies such as, ‘San Miquel balhatz nos d'aiga’... (St Michael, give us water), to which a wisecrack is sure to have added, ‘Barrejada ambé de vi; Maï de vi que d'aïgo’, Tout pur encore milhou (mixed with wine, but with more wine than water, and neat would be even better!).
