Regarding

It's one of the vestiges of the Cathars in the Montagne Noire area. An outstanding landscape stretches in front of it with the Pyrenees on the horizon. The castle's fortifications were built below the village and stretch down below the foot of the Vernassonne ravine. The ruins of the keep still rise to a height of about twenty metres.

In the main central building, two restored rooms house a museum display devoted to Saissac's coin hoard. These 2000 coins were discovered in 1979 and date from the 1270s. They are the largest royal hoard ever found buried in Languedoc.
